Vizio M55-E0 of the M-series in 2017 with technology XLED

Last year's models of P-Series TVs from Vizio were distinguished by high image quality and relatively low price compared to other manufacturers. In addition, the middle-class Vizio M-Series has become even more affordable. At the same time, the picture quality is still at its best.

In 2017 there are changes. Interestingly, the fact that the 2017 P-Series has not changed much. At the same time, the M-Series under consideration became the owner of the "XLED" technology, which undoubtedly will attract the attention of buyers. Consider TV Vizio M55-E0 as a representative of the new M-series in 2017.

Vizio M-Series 2017

All models of the Vizio M-Series in 2017 make up the line of TVs from $ 800 for the 50-inch model M55-E0 to $ 3000 for a diagonal of 75 inches. The TVs are equipped with 32-band screen darkening technology. Thanks to this, the image received deep black tones, an expanded color gamut and a higher peak brightness at 600 nits. Previously, this was only available in the P-series Vizio.

As we know, the higher the peak brightness and the wider color gamut, the better the playback of dynamic scenes. This we can observe in the Vizio M55-E0. The performance in the M-Series makes it possible to equip the TV line with HDR support. Almost all televisions 2017 tend to purchase in the specifications playback in the HDR standard. The manufacturer took this requirement into account in the year 2107.

Excellent levels of black

Vizio demonstrated in the M-Series the best level of black in comparison with the Samsung Q7F QLED. The test was with televisions 65 diagonals. This indicator is due to the technology of local dimming, but we note that Samsung has the Edge-Lit backlight, which distorts the black parts of the image with light gray strips on some dynamic scenes.

Thus, it can be noted that Vizio and Samsung Q7 are at the same level of image quality (Vizio M-Series is not inferior to Samsung). Let's take into account that the price of 65 M-Series diagonal is $ 1500, and Samsung with the same diagonal will cost you $ 4000.

If you are looking for a new TV with a balanced price and image quality, then the updated model Vizio M55-E0 will be preferable. Of course, the P-Series will have a different price, but now we will not consider it. Advanced users are likely to overpay extra money for the P-Series, but this is their own business.

A few words about the E-series. This year, the line received support for HDR10. We told about it in the review of Vizio E75-E3. This series has fewer local dimming zones than the M and P series, but the image quality suffers slightly unlike Samsung's entry-level TVs.

XLED technology

Despite the fact that Vizio this year is trying to emphasize the applied technology of screens "XLED", this is a rather weak trump card. In principle, this is just an option to provide the famous technology of 2016, which was updated only with the help of software. There are no changes in the hardware as such.

This means that if you purchased the model in 2016, it will receive updates (firmware Vizio TV), improving the quality of the image. But this can lead the ordinary consumer into confusion. They might think that "XLED" implies a significant upgrade, but it's not. Although Samsung actively promotes the technology "QLED", which introduces at least some changes in Quantum Dot technology, Vizio limited itself to updating the software.

Android tablet

Vizio P- and M-series TVs still use the Android tablet supplied instead of the standard remote control to operate it. However, a larger number of users say that they practically do not use the tablet, but use their own smartphones.

Google Cast

It is expected that in the summer it will be possible to download a new firmware of the Vizio TV and update yourself. This will affect the remote control. The update will allow the user to receive streaming streaming directly to the TV, instead of what a separate external unit would do. This is most likely a philosophy, but the manufacturer claims that it will be easier to use the TV.

Embedded applications are similar to last year. Their number did not increase the manufacturer, so as not to clog the starter screen. In general, the Vizio M55-E0 has the optimal set of applications. Theoretically, the Smart TV platform has not changed, and you can read about it in last year's Vizio reviews.

It's time to sum up the considered model M55-E0 from Vizio. Here it is worth mentioning that all models of the Vizio M series of the 2017 series have built-in compatibility with ChromeCast, Google Home. The entire series is 4K TVs with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, in contrast to last year's models, where a frequency of 120 Hz was used for the diagonals of the screen from 60 inches in the M-Series 2016 series.

The new 4K HDR label Vizio M-Series "XLED", which can attract a buyer, is nothing more than a promotional move. Of course, Vizio recommends buying an additional soundbar, the sound of which is much different from the built-in speakers. In conclusion, I want to note that last year's announcement of the purchase of Vizio by LeEco is unsuccessful. The manufacturer will not slow down the development of innovations in its new models.
